Living with my Diabetes Community Sharps disposal  

Used needles and finger-pricking lancets should not be thrown in the household waste.( Old insulin syringes  have been found on rubbish tips and  are a health hazard).  Yellow “sharps” boxes can be obtained from either local chemists in Portsmouth or from your local council.  For holidays, a BD Safe clip device can be used. This is available on prescription

Portsmouth: GP to provide prescription for sharps boxes.  When full contact Portsmouth council on (023) 9282 2251 to arrange collection. 

In addition there are a number of Pharmacies in the Portsmouth city area who will take in patients' sealed sharps bins.  They act as the patient representative and the city council will collect from these pharmacies.  This service is suitable for the 1 litres sharps bins.  Please follow this link for the details of the Pharmacies who will act as collection points.

Gosport:  (023) 9254 5406  The council delivers and collects sharps boxes every Thursday.  Arrangements can be made with them for regular collection or alternatively you can telephone them when a new box is required.

Fareham:  01329 236100  Delivery and collection service provided by the council (Wednesday & Thursday) by telephoning this number. 

Havant: (023) 9244 6451  Delivery and collection service provided by the council, one day a week (variable depending on location).  You should contact the council before Tuesday afternoon for delivery the same week. 

Petersfield:  01730 234295  Delivery and collection service provided by the council – telephone this number at the beginning of the week.
