Introduction
The information in this section has been provided to create awareness of the educational opportunities that have been made available by the Portsmouth Diabetes Centre for both the healthcare professional and patient with diabetes. These are unique and innovative courses, which have been developed to enhance patient care.
Should you have any queries with regard to any of the courses listed then please contact the Portsmouth Diabetes Centre on (023) 9228 6260.
Local Diabetes Education for Healthcare Professionals
The Portsmouth Specialist Diabetes Team and associates are very pleased to offer a series of education modules on a rolling monthly basis commencing May 2009.
The funding of these courses has been secured through NHS Education South Central (NESC) and in consequence, there are no course fees for those individuals wishing to attend.
The modules available are open to a wide range of health care professionals (HCPs) involved in diabetes health care. They represent practical aspects of diabetes management which were identified as areas that HCPs in both the community and hospital would wish to receive further training upon.
We have brought together for these modules a group of local individuals with substantive skills and experience in delivering diabetes education in their specialist area. They will aim to make the sessions as informative and interactive as possible and in consequence, each module has a maximum of 15 spaces.
In general these spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis. We have been fortunate in developing this initiative in collaboration with Portsmouth University and the modules will be delivered at the ExPERT Centre within the University itself. Certificates of Attendance will be issued on the day and CME points have been applied for. There is also an opportunity to utilise the information learnt on these courses and to write a reflective piece of work which would be considered by Portsmouth University towards credits for some higher qualifications (more details available from the course module leaders).
In subsequent years, these courses will be ‘stand alone’ modules that we are in the process of accrediting through Portsmouth University – completion would result in credits towards National 0,1, 2, 3 and M Levels. We also aim to offer a PgC in diabetes if further funding is secured from 2011.
We hope you find this series of modules useful. Their development have had the full support of the Learning Leads for PHT, Portsmouth City and Hampshire PCTs. They will be repeated each year on a rotational basis. More details are available by following this link.
